2017 Albert B. Ferguson Jr MD Resident Research Day

The 2017 Albert B. Ferguson Jr MD Resident Research Day was held on May 3, 2017.  Joshua J. Jacobs, MD, served as the as the Albert B. Ferguson, Jr., MD Visiting Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Four junior residents and eight senior residents presented their research and answered questions from Dr. Jacobs, as well as from faculty, residents and fellows. Dr. Jacobs judged the presentations to select the best papers.

As the Ferguson Visiting Professor, Dr. Jacobs also served as judge and selected the best papers for our annual Residents Research Day. Many of our residents have multiple ongoing research projects and had to select one project to present. Best paper awards were presented to:

Best Junior Basic Science Presentation:
Jared Crasto, MD (faculty advisor: Kurt Weiss, MD)

Best Senior Basic Science Presentation:

Ermias Abebe, MD (faculty advisors: Ivan Tarkin, MD & MaCalus Hogan, MD)

Best Senior Clinical Science Presentation:

Tiffany Wu, MD (faculty advisor: John Fowler, MD)
 

The awards are generously provided by Dr. Jack Smith, president of the Pitt Orthopaedic Alumni Association.

Dr. Jacobs is the William A. Hard, MD, Susanne G. Swift Professor and Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Jacobs’ presentation was “Tribocorrosion: Concepts and Clinical Ramifications.”
